This story sort of, but not fully, parallels the story of the two thieves on crosses next to our LORD Jesus Christ, with the chief butler and chief baker, officers, both chiefs to Pharaoh. In God's eyes and without Christ we are all guilty before God. Before Pharaoh, one was declared guilty by Pharaoh, one not, both sharing their dreams with Joseph. One restored to former glory (chief butler), one hung by the neck (chief baker). Jesus said to the one thief who acknowledged Him, "Today thou shalt be with me in Paradise". The chief butler was restored to his former "paradise", but forgot Joseph. This all happened after three days, as Jesus Christ was in the tomb that long, another parallel.

Genesis Chapter 40: THE TWO OTHER THIEVES

And it came to pass after these things, that the butler of the king of Egypt and his baker had offended their lord the king of Egypt. And Pharaoh was wroth against two of his officers, against the chief of the butlers, and against the chief of the bakers. And he put them in ward in the house of the captain of the guard, into the prison, the place where Joseph was bound.
Whatever it was, it was enough to get them in jail
Again, God's Hand of Providence is at work, about to be revealed
Joseph in place, butler in place, things are prepared in God's timing to start happening

Joseph, being in charge over them, now will have the chance to be called before Pharaoh for yet another interpretation from God of a dream, the dream for Israel to enter Egypt for 400 years, about to be fulfilled

"According to the interpretation of his dream" means that, however similar the dreams were, even if they had been the exact same dream for both, the interpretation for them was different, as was, of course, the outcome!

DREAMS, IN SCRIPTURE
It must be said here that Joseph's two dreams God gave him of the future, while not well received by his father, mother and brethren, was prophetic, later fulfilled before all of their eyes down to the letter. Joseph would rule over them in Egypt, God sending the Jews, the Israelites, into Egypt for four hundred years, starting with the famine that brought Joseph's family to Egypt in the start. Much is made today of signs and wonders, way, way too much. It must be understood that these people here in Genesis did not have all of God's Word and that today we do, all of it. That said, God has His Word here in America to teach us from and does not need to speak to us in dreams; He speaks to us through His Word as we read it, and shows things to us about last days events to our eyes as they happen. It may not be the case where the Word of God is not, such as persecuted areas where the Word of God is not allowed, but that is not the problem here .We have it and do not read it, then we run to "visions, dreams from God that He gave me last night" that God never gave, because that person does not go to the Word of God to discern, does not read, study or even know what the Word of God is! This is why so much deception is rampant, the seeking signs and wonders" rather than seeking the God behind them. Wonderful pageantry, absent completely of the Holy Ghost.

And Joseph came in unto them in the morning, and looked upon them, and, behold, they were sad. And he asked Pharaoh's officers that were with him in the ward of his lord's house, saying, Wherefore look ye so sadly to day?
Most likely life was good for them, a good job, a good salary, prominence, status, protection, so no outward reason to be sad for both or either of them
Neither of them had necessarily a bad dream (although birds eating meats of of baskets on one's head could certainly indicate so); it was that they had asked for interpretation and did not get it

And they said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is no interpreter of it. And Joseph said unto them, Do not interpretations belong to God? tell me them, I pray you.
The reason they "had no interpretation is:
They were in prison, so the Egyptian diviners, sorcerers were not available to them
They would never have interpreted it correctly as it was
God would have Joseph interpret for them
This would be fulfilled according to God's plan, Who gave this dream
So, the actual answer is, "YES! Interpretations DO indeed and in fact belong to God!"
They belong to God, and ONLY to God

If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to shew unto man his uprightness: Then he is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.
(Genesis 40:9-11 [AKJV/PCE])
And the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, In my dream, behold, a vine was before me; And in the vine were three branches: and it was as though it budded, and her blossoms shot forth; and the clusters thereof brought forth ripe grapes: And Pharaoh's cup was in my hand: and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh's cup, and I gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand.
There is no indication in this dream in any place what it would mean to anyone, without God telling us
This is how many, many world leaders conducted conducted, as now many conduct themselves with their servants, by holding out the cup and have someone fill it for them, do all of their bidding

And Joseph said unto him, This is the interpretation of it: The three branches are three days: Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up thine head, and restore thee unto thy place: and thou shalt deliver Pharaoh's cup into his hand, after the former manner when thou wast his butler.
Not a bad dream, "You will get your job back!"
It is known that a king would use a broadsword to lift up the chin of a subject, for many different reasons

But think on me when it shall be well with thee, and shew kindness, I pray thee, unto me, and make mention of me unto Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house: For indeed I was stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews: and here also have I done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon.
Joseph gave him the interpretation, it was good to him to get his job back, so one request was all Joseph wanted-remember me
This butler would again have sway with Pharaoh and could spring Joseph from prison, which is why Joseph even asked
One word, one mention was all Joseph asked, one word, one mention was all that would be needed for this to happen to Joseph
This butler had the opportunity right here to tell Joseph of anything Joseph did wrong to deserve this punishment, banishment, imprisonment

When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he said unto Joseph, I also was in my dream, and, behold, I had three white baskets on my head: And in the uppermost basket there was of all manner of bakemeats for Pharaoh; and the birds did eat them out of the basket upon my head.
There can be no doubt that this chief baker expected fully the same kind of good interpretation, to be spared, to be baking for Pharaoh again in three days

And Joseph answered and said, This is the interpretation thereof: The three baskets are three days: Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up thy head from off thee, and shall hang thee on a tree; and the birds shall eat thy flesh from off thee.
OOPS! Spoke too soon! Not in any way the meaning of the dream he was looking for
Hung as food for vultures-no the same as a restoration back to former worldly glory at all

¶ And it came to pass the third day, which was Pharaoh's birthday, that he made a feast unto all his servants: and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and of the chief baker among his servants.
On the birthday of a pharaoh, as today with world leaders, all servants are required to attend, the public is invnted, etc. making it a gala, festive event
So both heads lifted, for very different purposes, different outcomes, and this was all done publicly, very publicly, in fact, before all, for all to see
Neither one was worthy of anything from any kings, as we are not, so this merely shows the sovereignty over earthly men of earthly kings, leaders-FOR A TIME
The God of the whole earth, the Judge of all the earth, will have them all hanging their heads in shame because they rejected Him as their LORD and Saviour
(Genesis 40:21-22 [AKJV/PCE])
And he restored the chief butler unto his butlership again; and he gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand: But he hanged the chief baker: as Joseph had interpreted to them.
God being the one Who gave and then revealed these dreams foretold the results for both of them
Three days is a long time to await something good like restoration to a prestigious job
Three days is very little time to someone who is about to be executed for their crimes
(Genesis 40:23 [AKJV/PCE])
Yet did not the chief butler remember Joseph, but forgat him.
In the end, it is about the butler taking care of himself, his position, his prestige, his pompous personal pride
Joseph interpreted the dream and that interpretation meant nothing to him as a service, even though he had no clue what it meant without that interpretation;
The actual event of his own restoration is all that mattered
