The purpose of a trial such as this is to test our faith in God's ability to fulfill His promises to us, no matter how big a miracle
Abram was already promised by God Himself that a nation would come from him
God did not say he Abram would have to do this in a nefarious way by having a surrogate mother for his children
Sarai was his wife; this was through whom God promised the nation

Unless she is a godly, wise woman, unless and until God tells us to, no husband who hearkened to his wife in order to further a promise of God, in Scripture, prospered, so neither should we in life or

Sarai was forgetting the promise of God and was getting ahead, getting the job done, aggressively and in an overbearing manner
Yes, she got Abram a son through Hagar. Yes, Ishmael became a great nation. No, it was not the nation God promised and, the nations from ishmael are to this day surrounding and trying to destroy
Israel!
In fact, now today, the more Europe is filled with Muslims, the more anti-Israel Europe becomes, and united against God's people Israel

The Ishmaelites today became the Arabs, the Lebanese, the "Palestinian" Arabs, etc., all surrounding Israel; all sworn enemies of Israel, trying to destroy her, today still, in the Middle East and now also in Euriope, North Africa, since then, non stop, to today. Because "thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife"

Muslims also believe that Ishmael was the one who their god Allah wanted, since he was the firstborn of Abraham, born to him from his second wife Hagar.
Genesis 16:3
And Sarai Abram's wife took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife.
They had relations, they are married. In God's eyes. Man's laws do not count.
This is God's definition of marriage, as the One Who created it in the Garden, not man's. Man says, "Get a license" (pay us $$$), sign here (more $$$), now you can do things with $$$ together
To divorce, it must also involve $$$ (lots of it), and a legal $eparation (separation of a$$ets)

Genesis 16:4
And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived: and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes.
OOOOPS! Huge mistake!
Abram cleaved to Hagar
Their two became one flesh (seeds mingled to become one seed, baby Ishmael)
Genesis 16:5
And Sarai said unto Abram, My wrong be upon thee: I have given my maid into thy bosom; and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes: the LORD judge between me and thee.
Now even Sarai sees the error in her decision, to get ahead of God
Hagar: "I am having a baby you should have! HAHA! I am better than you are!"
"My wrong be upon thee"......as in......."This is really, really going to affect you, Abram, forever, because of who Ishmael will become later, as in all of the nations surrounding Israel". That is, to this
day, his hand against every man, his hand against Israel. As with Eve being deceived and Adam listening to her, so this affect is widespread, "because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife"

And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
Genesis 16:6
But Abram said unto Sarai, Behold, thy maid is in thy hand; do to her as it pleaseth thee. And when Sarai dealt hardly with her, she fled from her face.
So this is the way of sin:
Decide to go against God and His Word, His Will, through lack of faith and trust in Him
Act on the decision (so the sinful seed)
Rue, regret that decision, that action
Blame others (Hagar) when things do not work as planned
Sweep the problem under the rug to hide it, hoping there are no consequences for your actions
Reap the sinful fruit of the bad decision
Abram throws it back into Sarai's lap, "This was YOUR idea, YOU take care of it!"
Hagar did not leave, she FLED. Harsh words, threats maybe were spoken.
Genesis 16:7,8
And the angel of the LORD found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur. And he said, Hagar, Sarai's maid, whence camest thou? and whither wilt thou go? And she said, I flee from the face of my mistress Sarai.
Sin's effect. Always widespread, affecting all around, for ages to come.
Sarai blamed Hagar for hating her
Hagar mocked Sarai because Hagar had Abram's child and Sarai was barren with no child
Ishmael is a sworn enemy of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob (ISRAEL) to this day, thousands of years later.
Genesis 16:9
And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Return to thy mistress, and submit thyself under her hands.
The reason God said this is because God Himself would protect her
Submission is humility
Submission to God means His Mercy can and will extend back to us. God is merciful to the wicked and the good, upon whom He wills, but submitting to His Will can bring mercy
Genesis 16:10

Ishmael grew to outnumber Israel, many times over, to surround her to this day, as the Muslim nations which, over the millennia, no one knows on earth how
many descendants there have been.
As of the time of this writing (October 2023) Israel is now under attack by "Palestinians" who have killed 400, taken many hostages, by surprise
This came directly on the heels of us sending billions to Iran, which now can be obviously seen to be used to buy weapons, lots of them, to murder as many Jews
The spirit of Ishmael spoken of here is alive and well around the borders of God's people, whose citizenship is ISRAEL
In addition to God's Mercy, this may have comforted Hagar quite a bit

It is an easier thing to persuade men to assume the form of godliness than to submit to the power of godliness."

A wild man, as in what is surrounding Israel today, wild men, screaming in glee while they murder innocent in every evil and unimaginable way Jews, Who owns all land, who God gave the
land to, to dwell in forever, who want to drive her from their God-given land.
"In the presence of all his brethren"
"his hand will be against every man"
"and every man's hand against him"
So prophecy fulfilled, all of the Muslims surround and attack and want to utterly destroy God's Chosen people, Israel, in the land He gave them, and surround them today
They hate each other, but have a united front against Israel, now even with two atheistic countries, Russia and China, strange bedfellows (Allah and no one)
Genesis 16:13
And she called the name of the LORD that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me?
Apparently Hagar thought that God did not know her plight, but God knows all
When she saw that God would take care of this whole mess for her, she freely acknowledged it
The "him" she refers to can be either looking back to God, or after Ishmael. In either case, she is asking herself how well she is doing her task of following God or following God and taking
care of Ishmael, which stems from following God, like all godly mothers do
Hagar was with child, alone, in the wilderness, and God had mercy on her
Genesis 16:14
Wherefore the well was called Beerlahairoi; behold, it is between Kadesh and Bered.
A beer is a well, a well where God saw Hagar's plight, hence the name
Genesis 16:15
And Hagar bare Abram a son: and Abram called his son's name, which Hagar bare, Ishmael.
Prophecy and promise fulfilled, which continues uyntil today, with Israel at war with her enemies, still today, since then, since 1948, 1967, 1973, and now in 2023

And Abram was fourscore and six years old, when Hagar bare Ishmael to Abram.
Abram was ninety years old, and Isaac was not even born yet
