Isaiah Chapter 2

(Isaiah 2:1-2)
The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD'S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.
  • This is speaking of the millennium
  • "In the last days"
(Genesis 49:1)
And Jacob called unto his sons, and said, Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you that which shall befall you in the last days.

(Isaiah 2:2)
(HERE)
And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD'S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.

(Micah 4:1)
But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it.

(Acts 2:17)
And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

(2 Timothy 3:1)
This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

(2 Peter 3:3)
Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,

(Micah 4:1)
But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it.

(Jeremiah 31:6)
For there shall be a day, that the watchmen upon the mount Ephraim shall cry, Arise ye, and let us go up to Zion unto the LORD our God.

(Luke 13:29)
And they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God.

(Isaiah 2:3)
And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
  • Isaiah has many verses on this time in the future (Isaiah 11:9 , Isaiah 19:24, Isaiah 11:4, Isaiah 11:6, Isaiah 65:20)
(Micah 4:1)
But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it.

(Isaiah 2:4)
And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.
  • This is a good verse to use to teach about inductive Bible learning and study-CONTEXT
  • The meaning of the verse is the Return of Christ to judge the world before any world peace
  • There are no dots in front to indicate that there is more, but there obviously is!
?????????????????????????????????????????????????

Isaiah 2:4 purposely taken out of context (Isaiah 2:5)
O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the LORD.
  • Israel, in the Millennial Kingdom, will walk with the LORD for a thousand years, most of them.
  • This is in addition to the Gentiles at that time

FROM THE EAST

(Genesis 11:2)
And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.

God Brought them out of the east

(Isaiah 43:5)
Fear not: for I am with thee: I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west;

(Isaiah 2:6)
Therefore thou hast forsaken thy people the house of Jacob, because they be replenished from the east, and are soothsayers like the Philistines, and they please themselves in the children of strangers.
  • Nothing good ever seems to come from the east in Scripture
(Isaiah 2:7)
Their land also is full of silver and gold, neither is there any end of their treasures; their land is also full of horses, neither is there any end of their chariots:
  • They were specifically told not to amass these things,
  • They were further warned that, if they rejected God as king and got a king "like the Gentiles", this would happen.
Deuteronomy 17:15-17 (KJV)
Thou shalt in any wise set him king over thee, whom the LORD thy God shall choose: one from among thy brethren shalt thou set king over thee: thou mayest not set a stranger over thee, which is not thy brother. But he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt, to the end that he should multiply horses: forasmuch as the LORD hath said unto you, Ye shall henceforth return no more that way. Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away: neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold.

(Isaiah 2:8)
Their land also is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made:
  • Accumulating horses and riches leads to a lack of trust in their God, which means they leave Him for....idols
  • With the blessings come the curses, because of forgetting the God of the blessing and focusing on the blessing.
  • The blessings are from God, the curses are from their sin-idolatry
(Isaiah 2:9)
And the mean man boweth down, and the great man humbleth himself: therefore forgive them not.
  • The mean man.............AVERAGE
  • The great man.............HIGH STATURE
  • Idolatry is universal and is no respecter of persons; so is forgiveness, unforgiveness, sin and repentance
(Isaiah 2:10)
Enter into the rock, and hide thee in the dust, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty.
  • One cannot hide FROM the LORD, just their fear of Him is abated when we think we can hide from Him
  • Just God's Glory and Majesty is fearful enough, for who He is alone
  • The word fear means either worship, or just that-fear, and fear torments us, even if it is not a real threat, like God is
  • Loving God prevents this; but only God's love is perfect
  • God is called "the fear of Isaac"
(1 John 4:18)
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

(Psalms 34:11)
Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD.

(Genesis 31:42)
Except the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the fear of Isaac, had been with me, surely thou hadst sent me away now empty. God hath seen mine affliction and the labour of my hands, and rebuked thee yesternight.

FEAR, n. [See the Verb.]
  1. A painful emotion or passion excited by an expectation of evil, or the apprehension of impending danger. Fear expresses less apprehension than dread, and dread less than terror and fright. The force of this passion, beginning with the most moderate degree, may be thus expressed, fear, dread, terror, fright. Fear is accompanied with a desire to avoid or ward off the expected evil. Fear is an uneasiness of mind, upon the thought of future evil likely to befall us.
Fear is the passion of our nature which excites us to provide for our security, on the approach of evil.
  2. Anxiety; solicitude.
The principal fear was for the holy temple.
  3. The cause of fear.
    Thy angel becomes a fear.
  4. The object of fear.
Except the God of Abraham, and the fear of Isaac, had been with me. Gen 31.
  5. Something set or hung up to terrify wild animals, by its color or noise. Isa 24. Jer 48.
  6. In Scripture, fear is used to express a filial or a slavish passion. In good men, the fear of God is a holy awe or reverence of God and his laws, which springs from a just view and real love of the divine character, leading the subjects of it to hate and shun every thing that can offend such a holy being, and inclining them to aim at perfect obedience. This is filial fear. I will put my fear in their hearts. Jer 32. Slavish fear is the effect or consequence of guilt; it is the painful apprehension of merited punishment. Rom 8. The love of God casteth out fear. 1 John 4.
  7. The worship of God.
I will teach you the fear of the Lord. Psa 34.
  8. The law and word of God.The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever. Psa 19.
  9. . Reverence; respect; due regard. Render to all their dues; fear to whom fear. Rom 13.
FEAR, v.t. [L. vereor.]
  1. 1. To feel a painful apprehension of some impending evil; to be afraid of; to consider or expect with emotions of alarm or solicitude. We fear the approach of an enemy or of a storm. We have reason to fear the punishment of our sins.
I will fear no evil, for thou art with me. Psa 23.
  2. 2. To reverence; to have a reverential awe; to venerate. This do, and live: for I fear God. Gen 42.
  3. 3. To affright; to terrify; to drive away or prevent approach by fear, or by a scarecrow. [This See ms to be the primary meaning, but now obsolete.] We must not make a scarecrow of the law, setting it up to fear the birds of prey.
FEAR, v.i. To be in apprehension of evil; to be afraid; to feel anxiety on account of some expected evil.
  • But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtility, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. 2 Cor 11. Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward. Gen 15.
FEAR, n. A companion. [Not in use. See Peer.]

(Jonah 4:2)
