Revelation Chapter 11

(Revelation 11:1
And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein.

  • This is the rebuilt temple on earth, not in Heaven
(Revelation 11:2 )
But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.

  • This is the last part of the Tribulation, the three and a half years.
  • There are Jews and there are Gentiles........no Church here
  • The Jews are the focus, not the Gentiles
  • Imagine what the Temple will look like after the anti-Christ and the lost followers are done with it!
(Revelation 11:3 )
And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.

  • This is the same three and a half years, full on preaching
  • This is only through God's Sovereign Power, Will, Guidance and Protection
  • A sackcloth implies mourning, and it is apparent that the mourning is for what is happening and will happen on earth, and that perhaps many are hearing the Gospel, and rejecting it as well
  • God is s till trying to save man, and proving to him that no matter what the situation, His Hand will be outstretched to man and man will still find an excuse to reject God's salvation
SACK'CLOTH, n. [sack and cloth.] Cloth of which sacks are made; coarse cloth. This word is chiefly used in Scripture to denote a cloth or garment worn in mourning, distress or mortification.
Gird you with sackcloth and mourn before Abner. 2 Sam 3.
Est 4. Job 46.

(Isaiah 5:25 )
Therefore is the anger of the LORD kindled against his people, and he hath stretched forth his hand against them, and hath smitten them: and the hills did tremble, and their carcases were torn in the midst of the streets. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

(Matthew 23:34-35 )
Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city: That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.

(Acts 7:52 )
Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which shewed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers:

(Revelation 11:4 )
These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.
  • This is straight out of Zechariah chapter 4
(Zechariah 4:3 )
And two olive trees by it, one upon the right side of the bowl, and the other upon the left side thereof.

(Zechariah 4:14 )
Then said he, These are the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth.

(Revelation 11:5 )
And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.
  • It must be obvious that no man will ever hurt them, even if they will to or were to try
(Revelation 11:6 )
These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.

  • This is the reason people say that this is Moses and Elijah
  • Elijah made it not rain for three and a half years!
(Exodus 4:9 )
And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe also these two signs, neither hearken unto thy voice, that thou shalt take of the water of the river, and pour it upon the dry land: and the water which thou takest out of the river shall become blood upon the dry land.

(Exodus 7:17-20 )
Thus saith the LORD, In this thou shalt know that I am the LORD: behold, I will smite with the rod that is in mine hand upon the waters which are in the river, and they shall be turned to blood. And the fish that is in the river shall die, and the river shall stink; and the Egyptians shall lothe to drink of the water of the river.
And the LORD spake unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and stretch out thine hand upon the waters of Egypt, upon their streams, upon their rivers, and upon their ponds, and upon all their pools of water, that they may become blood; and that there may be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood, and in vessels of stone. And Moses and Aaron did so, as the LORD commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and smote the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his servants; and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood.

(1 Kings 17:1 )
And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.

(Luke 4:25 )
But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land;

(James 5:17 )
Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.

(Malachi 4:5 )
Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:

(Revelation 11:7 )
And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.

  • It is all about God's perfect timing
  • Before this moment no one could hurt them at all, but now God is finished with their testimony to the lost
  • This is the first mention of the beast from the bottomless pit
  • God protects us the same way, so that we are never overcome.(God says you live, you live)
(Revelation 11:8 )
And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.
  • This is Jerusalem
  • Calvary, Golgotha, The Cross were at Jerusalem
  • This "where also our LORD was crucified" is universal in the four Gospels
  • Sodom: Because of her Immorality
  • Egypt: Because of her Idolatry
  • Sodom represents the lust of the flesh.
  • Egypt represents the lust of the eyes.
  • Jerusalem represents the pride of life. (1 John 2:15-16)

    WHERE JESUS WAS CRUCIFIED

    (Matthew 27:33 )
And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull,

    Mark 15:22 )
And they bring him unto the place Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, The place of a skull.

    (Luke 23:33 )
And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.

    (John 19:17 )
And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:

    JERUSALEM, SODOM

    (Jeremiah 23:14 )
I have seen also in the prophets of Jerusalem an horrible thing: they commit adultery, and walk in lies: they strengthen also the hands of evildoers, that none doth return from his wickedness: they are all of them unto me as Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as Gomorrah.

    (Ezekiel 16:46 )
And thine elder sister is Samaria, she and her daughters that dwell at thy left hand: and thy younger sister, that dwelleth at thy right hand, is Sodom and her daughters.

    JERUSALEM: EGYPT

    (Ezekiel 20:7-8 )
Then said I unto them, Cast ye away every man the abominations of his eyes, and defile not yourselves with the idols of Egypt: I am the LORD your God. But they rebelled against me, and would not hearken unto me: they did not every man cast away the abominations of their eyes, neither did they forsake the idols of Egypt: then I said, I will pour out my fury upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.

    (Revelation 11:9 )
And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves.

    • This is only possible through satellite television, the internet, etc.

    (Revelation 11:10 )
And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth.

    • It is like Christmas to the lost on earth!
    • What exactly were they martyred for?
      • Self-defense
      • Preaching the Gospel

    (Revelation 11:11 )
And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them.
    • This also, it must be remembered, is live on TV and the Internet around the world-and completely unexpected!

    (Revelation 11:12 )
And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them.

    • This is a rapture, second time if this is Elijah
    • Imagine what their enemies think when they see this happen
    • Remember this is live TV, which will immediately be both shut down and explained away

    (2 Kings 2:1 )
And it came to pass, when the LORD would take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.

    (2 Kings 2:11-12 )
And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. And Elisha saw it, and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces.

    (Revelation 11:13 )
And the same hour was there a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were slain of men seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven.

    • Tragedies such as this today bring people to God on their knees
    • During the Great Tribulation, this will not be the case, so this remnant is rare to see
    • This is all part of the second WOE

    (Revelation 9:20 )
And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:

    (Revelation 16:9 )
And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.

    (Revelation 11:14 )
The second woe is past; and, behold, the third woe cometh quickly.

    • There is a pause between the sixth and seventh trumpet

    (Revelation 11:15 )
And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

SEVENTH ANGEL BLOWS HIS TRUMPET: INTERLUDE BEFORE THIRD WOE (HEAVEN)

    (Revelation 11:14-19 )
The second woe is past; and, behold, the third woe cometh quickly. And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever. And the four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and worshipped God, Saying, We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned.
And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth. And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.

    • Transfer of ultimate power to Jesus Christ proclaimed as coming up soon!
